E-commerce entrepreneur & #bosslady Influencer
Once upon a time, a hard-working fundraising executive found herself laid off from her job at American Cancer Society. Like many women do when faced with adversity … she took herself to the spa for a massage and a facial. Sort of an Elle Woods moment (remember when she went in search of a mani when things got tough at Harvard law school?)
That laid off-exec was Vanity Girl Hollywood Founder, Maxine Tatlonghari. The spa was Burke Williams on the Sunset Strip (now located on La Brea) and on that day, her life would change forever.
As Maxine sat in the spa’s glamorous vanity room post massage and facial, she started to blow dry her hair feeling relaxed and pampered. ”Surrounded by the Hollywood-style lighted mirrors in front of me continued that glamorous feeling,” she says.
That’s when the idea light bulb went off for her.
She knew there were other women who wanted to feel like THIS when they got ready. Special. Pampered. Glamorous. So, she sketched out the idea for a Hollywood vanity mirror on a napkin, took it to a manufacturer she knew and in February 2009, Vanity Girl Hollywood was born! She blogs about her #bosslady lifestyle in TheVanityDiaries.com.
Maxine’s passion is to make women and girls (and glamorous guys) feel glamorous and special everyday. Vanity Girl started with the idea to have an Original Hollywood Mirror available to the “everyday gal.” Maxine’s idea quickly reached cult beauty status when gurus like Kandee Johnson, Carli Bybel and Jaclyn Hill started using her mirrors in their videos and blog posts.
And what really drove her mission home, is when thousands of “everyday” women started posting their pictures and videos throughout YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat and more. That’s when she knew her Hollywood dream had truly come full circle when girls everywhere were feeling Hollywood Glamorous as they got ready to face the world.
Maxine has won numerous awards including the Phyllis Morris Design Award for Women in Leadership and the John Chase Design recognition for the Creative City Awards 2016. She lectures regularly at UCLA on social media and entrepreneurship and supports philanthropic causes like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Dress for Success and the American Lung Association. She also serves at the First Vice Chair of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. She currently resides in West Hollywood, builds her brand and maintains a Hollywood beauty boss lifestyle blog called The Vanity Diaries. She was a Finalist at ProBeauty/Cosmoprof’s Beauty Pitch Competition 2016 and a Trendscout at the show in 2017.
