Is it possible to have a pop up hotel? That’s kinda what The Jeremy Hotel was while 1 Hotel got ready to launch. The location has always been amazing, nestled at the base of the Hollywood Hills. On the street level, we’ve always been able to take IG pics with sweeping views from Downtown LA to Santa Monica. But the vast interior always lacked a warmth and felt, quite frankly, a bit like an office building.
But no more.
The 1 Hotel offers its first West Coast hotel drawing inspiration from the land, sea, and abundant sunshine of Southern California. I was invited to a Progressive Dinner to sample their new restaurants and experience the whole new vibe.
Where to Eat:
The Juniper Tree: This is one of the biggest changes to the property. Juniper Tree is a lounge that’s rooted in a sense of place and offers the warmth and “destination” feel that the old space lacked. Handcrafted cocktails take many of their ingredients from an on-site, 100% organic garden, with cold-pressed juices, house-made syrups, and fresh garnishes. I tried the Hollywood Spritz and noshed on bites from the refined, market-driven bar menu by Executive Chef Chris Crary, a Top Chef Alumni. Great spot for a first date as they also offer live music.
1 Kitchen by Chris Crary: Crary continues his food conversation with us via 1 Kitchen. This is a place that’s comfortable by nature, where you can eat mindfully and well, and savor the flavors that come straight from the garden. Making use of the same 100% organic garden and hand-crafted ingredients as The Juniper Tree, this is where you can experience Crary’s full meals in a beautiful light-filled setting.
Alice: Fresh. Seasonal. Locally sourced. Step outside (and snap a pic on the beautiful path that belies it’s Sunset Strip location) and find Alice. When you first walk in, you’ll be greeted with a busy market and a cozy café. Shop for artisanal wines, oysters from the raw bar, and charcuterie boards to bring to the next dinner party or bedside picnic back to your 1 Hotel Room. Behind the marketplace, you’ll be invited into a bustling dining room filled with light wood and delectable aromas. We were treated to crab legs, uni and a gorgeous steak during our dinner and every drink on the menu. Oh, how I love the h.wood group.
Harriet’s Rooftop: The love continues at this elevated rooftop bar designed by John Sofio of Built, Inc., the indoor/outdoor rooftop space features deep burgundy awnings, tasseled umbrellas, dark green and white striped furniture, string lights, and greenery framing sweeping views. Bar Director Justin Campbell crafts floral, herbaceous cocktails drawing inspiration from the garden-like setting, along with a selection of wine and beer.
