As we get ready to wrap up 2017 and head into 2018, it’s time to think about New Year’s Resolutions and the like. Gone are the days when many people would prefer to “tough it out” if they are not feeling well. Society is now becoming more health-conscious, especially here in LA. Eating organic food is a must; relatively new forms of fitness options, like aerial yoga have been the norm for awhile; and wearing gadgets that remind you how many steps you’ve taken or how many glasses of alkaline water you’ve imbibed are the norm here and in many parts of the world.
This health and fitness boom has led to the emergence of numerous wellness retreats all across the globe and I’ve been lucky to have experience some amazing massages and such. I think these retreats take it to a whole other level. These resorts make it a point to improve each guest’s well-being through programs and relaxing activities, complemented by picturesque sights and exciting adventures in these amazing locations.
Today, let’s look at five of the best in the world that are currently on my wish list.
Ananda Luxury Spa
If yoga is your passion, be sure to consider Ananda Luxury Spa for your next retreat. It’s located on the base of the Himalayas in Northern India, near the birthplace of yoga as well as Ayurveda healing treatments, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
Besides combining the mind and body relaxation techniques of yoga, the spa utilizes healing principles from both Eastern and Western practices to improve your well-being. As a bonus, the fresh air given off by the surrounding forest amps up the calming effect when you conduct your breathing exercises. It’s been quite a few years since I visited India so this ranks high on my wish list.
Wildfitness Food+Fit Retreat

If enjoying a laid back atmosphere is not your idea of relaxation, Wildfitness Food+Fit Retreat in a small village in Crete, Greece might offer the right program for you. The Telegraph says that their 10-day retreat combines outdoor activities such as climbing and running with food preparation techniques so you can learn more about how to cook healthy meals to fuel your body.
Greece is definitely on my bucket list this year. I would like to combine it with a visit to Croatia and then the South of France and Italy. A kick off at a retreat like Wildfitness seems like it would give me the much other three destinations with ease.
Mirbeau Inn and Spa

Stateside, Mirbeau Inn and Spa in Skaneateles in New York is for vacationers looking for a wellness retreat that can double as a romantic holiday. Its award-winning spa offers several treatments, ranging from manicures and pedicures to healing massages and wine salt scrubs. And to take things up a notch, why not take up lessons or learn tricks on how to perform massages on your partner? Foxy Bingo recommends couple’s massages as a great way for romantic partners to bond, not to mention ease out each other’s stress and body aches. It’s a sweet and relaxing finale, whether you came from a date or just a normal work day. But of course, indulging in luxury pampering every once in a while is good for your relationship too, and a place as fabulous as Mirbeau is the perfect venue.
Goddess Retreat: Sacred Dance, Yoga, and Acai Bowls

This Brazil retreat, as the name suggests, is for ladies who want to find their inner goddess. Well and Good divulged that the teachers are well-known figures in the health and wellness industry. One is Ksenia Avdulova, the yoga teacher who created the Breakfast Criminals’ smoothie bowls; and the other is Jaycee Gossett, a movement teacher. Besides learning more about healthy eating practices, meditation, and yoga, you can even acquire tidbits of knowledge on entrepreneurship how to use social media as a marketing tool during your retreat. That sounds like my type of trip!

The wellness center is located near Arenal Volcano, one of the most active in the world, and the hot springs in the resort are naturally heated by the underground magma.
